Different social skills are expected by our society at different developmental stages of an individual’s life. These skills are essential for individuals to integrate and adapt to their social environment. Our Social Skills training focuses on communication and interaction skills that are age-appropriate for the child.
It usually includes role-playing, training of social judgment and comprehension, and higher-level thinking skills.
Social skills are those communication, problem-solving, decision making, self-management, and peer relations abilities that allow one to initiate and maintain positive social relationships with others.
Social skills are important in enabling a child to have and maintain positive interactions with others. These skills are required in making and developing friendships. Good social skills can improve your child’s psychological and emotional well-being.
For children with social skills challenges, many social situations can be frustrating and difficult. They may misinterpret social cues and mistake others’ emotions. Other children may have limited skills for dealing with teasing and bullies. Limited social opportunities can leave some children feeling isolated, without the skills to make and maintain friendships.
Social skills groups provide the opportunity to teach children specific skills within a group of their peers. Social skills are practised during the sessions and children receive feedback to improve their abilities.
Social skills groups are also fun! Children and teens enjoy belonging to a group of peers, sharing experiences, and playing games.
These are fun filled, therapeutic group sessions led by our psychologists involving activities such as role play, audio-visual social stories, discussions,
games and art and craft activities targeted specifically to develop socio-emotional skills
Social skills training uses strategies such as role-playing, social stories to develop your child’s play skills (turn-taking or sharing a toy), conversational skills (verbal and non-verbal language), emotional skills (managing emotions and having empathy for others) and problem-solving skills (dealing with a conflict or making a decision).
Our social skills training follows the basic structural and implementation outline:
01. We identify the problem
02. We set the goals for your child
03. Modelling the expected skill
04. Role-playing of the expected skill
05. Feedback
06. Homework
Through our program, we would hand in hand build your child’s social competencies in a very fun and meaningful way.
We conduct Social Skills sessions twice a week in our Early Intervention Services and every Saturday for other kids in 2 categories
